At long last, construction begins on my new shop and Big Orange’s new home! This has been a long time in coming! Read the summary or watch the videos chronicling the build of my new shop in 2019.
Part 1
The new shop building is about a year later getting built than I had planned. Between waiting on my friend Bob (who is retiring from building steel buildings) to be available and the very rainy fall and winter, it became clear my shop wasn’t going to be built in 2018. But 2019 has been a different story!
This video covers the first few days when the framing goes up and some of the wall panels.
Part 2
In Part 2, we finish the walls on one day and install the entire roof the next day. I was thrilled to actually participate in the building of my own shop!
Part 3
In Part 3, Bob and Bob 2.0 put the finishing touches on the building like finishing that front wall, adding trim and gutters, installing roll-up doors and finally, the windows and gable vent fan. Also, I experiment with lighting the shop.
Part 4
In Part 4, the shop gets some finishing touches. I install the lighting, Bob and Bob 2.0 get the front and rear concrete pads poured, and add the shed off the back, or as I call it, the “back porch”.

This is the full time lapse video of my shop build, starting after the slab was poured. Thirteen days of building are covered in about 13 minutes, but it actually happened over the course of several weeks.
